Staff Management Team


John Ohanian, Chief Executive Officer
With a collaborative spirit, Mr. Ohanian brings strong experience in business, nonprofit management, and fund-raising to his position as Chief Executive Officer of 2-1-1 San Diego. He is a graduate of the University of San Diego and earned his CPA while working at KPMG Peat Marwick in San Diego. Previous to his appointment as CEO of 2-1-1 San Diego, Mr. Ohanian worked at the Alzheimer’s Association – San Diego/Imperial Chapter, serving as the Vice President of Finance, Operations and Planned Giving. Before joining the Alzheimer’s Association, Mr. Ohanian worked with the San Diego Jewish Community Foundation in several capacities, including Systems Consultant and Associate Director. During his tenure, the Jewish Community Foundation’s assets grew from $14 million to over $200 million, during which time he was able to make several significant contributions, including implementing the foundation’s “online” donor advised fund system, innovative investment platform, and constituent database system.

Management Team:

Mona Freels, Programs Director
Ms. Freels joined 2-1-1 San Diego after nine years of service with the San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter of the American Red Cross where she held several key management positions, most recently the Preparedness Manager. Prior to working for the Red Cross, Ms. Freels held the positions of Accounting Manager and Data Manager for an Insurance Brokerage Firm. Ms. Freels brings experience with emergency call centers as well as disaster relief. Mona is no stranger to 2-1-1 San Diego; she has been on the Steering Committee since its inception. Her responsibilities at 2-1-1 San Diego include managing the day-to-day activities of the Phone Center & Resource Center, ensuring that the AIRS standards are met as it relates to the information & referral program and collaborating with outside agencies to create and maintain protocols for appropriate referrals.

Chris Manning, Public Affairs Director

Ms. Manning joined 2-1-1 in December, 2007. She has over 25 years professional experience as a senior manager and consultant in community affairs, government relations, marketing communications, public relations and event management. Her experience includes over 10 years in disaster management and response for the local and national American Red Cross. While serving as a Red Cross volunteer, she received the Cabrillo volunteer leadership award, and as paid staff received the employee Key award for customer service. Following Hurricane Katrina, she collaborated with 2-1-1 and other community and government agencies to open the Family Assistance Center, which provided services to over 2,000 people who came to San Diego. She served as Director of Marketing Communications for an international energy firm, and was Founder and President of a non-profit citizens energy advocacy organization. Ms. Manning is responsible for developing and directing public affairs, business development, communications, media relations and community relations plans, as well as marketing and branding efforts to increase public awareness and support for 2-1-1. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in French from the University of Texas at Austin, as well training in emergency response, facilitation and media training.

Jeannine Moeder, Volunteer Manager

Ms. Moeder joined the 2-1-1 San Diego team with diverse experience in volunteer management, counseling, and start-up programming. Most recently, she developed the volunteer program at the Alzheimer’s Association – San Diego/Imperial Chapter. Jeannine began her career as a full-time volunteer through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC) volunteer program. While serving in this position, she coordinated volunteers at the St. Joseph Center, working with the homeless population. Since then, she has worked in San Diego at organizations such as San Diego Youth and Community Services, and Episcopal Community Services- WAYS program serving at-risk youth. Jeannine holds a Master of Science in Educational Counseling degree. Her duties at 2-1-1 San Diego include: development of volunteer opportunities, recruitment, cultivation and retention of volunteers in day-to-day operations as well as disaster response in accordance with AIRS standards.

Betty Timko, Operations Director

Ms. Timko's duties include directing the financial and human resources operations at 2-1-1. Betty is the agency’s chief financial officer with responsibility for all financial management, business operations, contracts, and budgeting. She is also responsible for the agency human resources functions including hr policies and payroll. . Before joining 2-1-1 in 1997, Ms. Timko spent 18 years with San Diego Gas & Electric, where she held several key management positions, including Customer Service Systems Manager, Call Center Manager, and Re-Engineering Manager. Ms. Timko has a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Business Administration from Illinois State University.
