We invite you to join one of the City Nature Challenge events around the county or participate on your own. \nMore About the City Nature Chalenge\nThe City Nature Challenge is co-organized in San Diego County by the San Diego Natural History Museum and the SDSU Biodiversity Museum. It was started by community science staff at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and the California Academy of Sciences in 2016. Global participation has grown from two cities in 2016 to over 650 today.

DESCRIPTION:Join thousands of San Diegans at Balboa Park on Saturday\, October 18\, 2025 for Walk4ALZ\, the region’s largest annual fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care and research\, hosted by Alzheimer’s San Diego. The 2.75-mile walk begins at 8 a.m. (festival area opens at 6:30 a.m.\, opening ceremony at 7:45 a.m.) and raises critical funds to support the 100\,000 local people living with dementia and their caregivers. \nRegistration is free\, and every dollar raised stays in San Diego County to provide support groups\, caregiver resources\, educational classes\, and research funding. Participants can register individually or as part of a team\, and anyone outside San Diego can also join virtually by walking “anytime\, anywhere” that weekend.

DESCRIPTION:The SD Fixit Clinic is excited to partner with the Solana Center at the Encinitas Community and Senior Center for the upcoming Zero Waste Textile Expo 2026! This special event aims to educate our wonderful community about the effects of clothing and textile waste and highlight the importance of embracing sustainable fashion practices. \nJoin us for a delightful mini textile repair clinic\, where you can bring your textile items that need a little love and mending. Please fill out the RSVP form to help us ensure that we have plenty of volunteers on hand to assist you. Please note that registration will close two days before the event. No worries if you can’t make it on time; we always welcome walk-ins on a first-come\, first-served basis! Just arrive before 3:30 PM. We will not be accepting any more people after 3:30 PM. \nIt’s a fun-filled day for the whole family\, so feel free to bring the kids along!
