SUMMARY:Townhall: Fighting Scams and Predatory Practices
DESCRIPTION:If you’ve ever opened a bill and thought\, “This doesn’t look right\,” you’re not imagining it. \nAcross San Diego\, families are paying an invisible Unfairness Tax — the costs we absorb when corporations break the rules\, and no one enforces them. It shows up as: \n\nJunk fees and surprise charges\nInsurance denials made by algorithms\, not doctors\nScams targeting seniors\, immigrants\, and working families\nTijuana River Pollution that shuts down our beaches and drives up health costs\n\n  \nAnd right now\, the problem is getting worse. As federal enforcement pulls back\, those costs don’t disappear — they’re quietly shifted onto families and local communities. \nThat’s why this town hall matters. Together\, we’ll: \n\nBreak down the most common scams and unfair practices hitting San Diegans today\nTalk about what residents are seeing in their own bills\, claims\, and neighborhoods\nIntroduce my proposal to create a Consumer Fairness and Public Protection Unit — a local watchdog designed to take on bad actors\, enforce the law\, and recover money for residents when corporations break the rules\n\n  \nThis isn’t about creating more government. It’s about enforcing the rules that already exist — so working families aren’t left paying the price when no one holds powerful interests accountable. \n  \nThis event is free and open to the public. An RSVP is required so that we can plan for seating and make sure your voice is part of the conversation.
