DESCRIPTION:Interested in FREE Office Professional Training (OPT) from Grossmont College?\nJoin the last informational meeting before the 2025 Spring Semester to learn more!\nZoom link: https://gcccd-edu.zoom.us/j/81372242637\nProgram Description:\n\nOne-semester training program for office professional positions\nSpecializations in Accounting\, Insurance\, Medical Office\, and Office Support\nStudents complete 12-20 degree-applicable community college units of courses\nSupport services include personal/crisis counseling and job placement assistance\n\n  \nAbout the Program:\nThe program begins with an initial assessment and a 2-week Pretraining Module.  The training program itself lasts 17 weeks. Students are enrolled in 12-20 units of college credit\, depending on their areas of specialization. All students take the following courses: \n\nKeyboarding\nOffice Procedures\nEffective Job Search\nBusiness English and Communication\nMicrosoft Word\nMicrosoft Excel\nMicrosoft Outlook\n\n  \nSupport Services:\nStudents receive support from a dedicated team of faculty and support staff\, including a personal/crisis counselor and a job placement specialist. School and community organizations provide assistance with basic needs\, such as food\, clothing\, housing\, and child care. Mentors\, internships\, and job placement assistance are significant aspects of the program. \nSuccess:\nSeventy-five to eighty-five percent of the graduating students obtain full-time employment. OPT was named the most outstanding special grant-funded program by the California Community College Association of Occupational Educators in 1996.  The OPT program received a Student Success Award from the Board of Governors and the California Community College Chancellor’s Office in 1999 and the Technology Hero Golden Mouse Award from the Technology Foundation of America in 2005.

At the Fixit Clinic\, you’ll learn how to repair items\, reduce waste\, and keep materials out of the landfill. \n  \nBring your broken items—electronics\, appliances\, toys\, bicycles\, clothing\, and more—for assessment\, disassembly\, and possible repair. We provide workspace\, specialty tools\, and volunteer coaches to guide you through the process. Even if we can’t fix your item\, you’ll learn more about how it works. \n  \nWhat to Know Before You Go \n\nRegistration deadline: Online registration closes at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday before the event. We use Friday to organize the event and pair participants with volunteer coaches.\nWalk-ins welcome: We accept walk-ins the day of the event\, but registered participants are served first. We typically stop accepting walk-ins at 12:30 p.m. so we can finish all repairs by 1 p.m.\nWait times: On event day\, participants are served as soon as possible\, but wait times vary based on how many items are ahead of you and the complexity of each repair. DESCRIPTION:This presentation is intended to help residents become disaster confident and resilient. This training will prepare residents with the knowledge to help themselves; their families\, friends\, and neighbors prepare for and navigate through the four (4) phases of a disaster. Each attendee will\nreceive a personal disaster plan book to start their preparedness journey. The presentation will be conducted by Subject Matter Experts in their respective fields and in their specific roles during a disaster. Partner agencies will be hosting disaster preparedness information and resource tables at the training. \nThe 4-Phases of a Disaster:\n1) Preparedness: (pets and people).\n2) Mitigation: (fire prevention and home hardening).\n3) Response: (evacuation planning and Genasys Protect Evac Map).\n4) Recovery: (local assistance centers and the recovery process). \nPresenters: Red Cross San Diego\, San Diego County Fire/CAL FIRE San Diego\, San Diego County Sheriff\, San Diego County Office of Emergency Services\, and the Iipay Nation of Santa Ysabel’s Fire & Police Chiefs. \nThis excellent and very informative training session is being co-hosted by the Iipay Nation of Santa Ysabel and San Diego County Fire’s Community Emergency Response Team. This is a Listos CA CERT Support Grant Funded training (LC23 01 0370). Light refreshments and snacks will be served.
