COVID-19 Testing

If you have COVID-19 symptoms or health care concerns, call your health care provider. Health plans are required to cover COVID-19 tests. If you do not have a health care provider, call 2-1-1. If you have serious symptoms, like difficulty breathing, call 9-1-1. Testing is offered for ages 12 and above. For younger children, consult the child’s doctor or contact Rady Children’s Hospital for more information. If you are unable to get a test from your health care provider the following options are available:

County of San Diego FREE COVID-19 Testing

FREE COVID-19 testing is available through the County of San Diego.  Appointments are required at most sites and can be made up to one week in advance. Walk-up service (no appointment required) is available at select County sites; Click here to see a complete list of all test sites. 
If you are symptomatic, please contact your healthcare provider or call 2-1-1 to be connected to a County Public Health Nurse.


The highest priority for the County of San Diego remains to test those with COVID-19 infection symptoms or people in high-risk groups that may include:
  • Health care workers
  • First responders
  • Other social service employees
  • People in essential jobs
  • Older adults
  • People with chronic medical conditions
  • People living in a residential or group setting, such as a long-term care facility or shelter
  • People exposed to infected individuals in places where COVID-19 risk is high
